Problem Statement

Eating affordably is not just a recipe problem. People often have limited groceries, inconsistent energy, beginner cooking skills, tight budgets, and a real temptation to fall back on takeout, convenience meals, or emergency food that does not feel good long term.

Pantry Witch explores how a food planning tool can support the whole week: planning, shopping, cooking, leftovers, pantry awareness, and gradual skill-building.

Solution Overview

The core idea is to use AI for one larger guided planning session at the beginning of the week, then let the app act as a persistent meal dashboard. Instead of repeatedly asking an AI what to cook, the user can save a weekly plan, track groceries, follow recipe cards, manage pantry items, log leftovers, and build cooking confidence over time.

AI Integration

The AI layer is a guided planning system that converts constraints into an actionable weekly food plan. It can generate meal plans, adapt recipes to available ingredients, suggest substitutions, reduce food waste, explain cooking techniques, and gradually increase recipe difficulty as the user gains confidence.

Planned Core Features

  • AI-assisted weekly meal planning based on budget, schedule, preferences, and pantry constraints.
  • Personalized grocery list generation with budget-conscious ingredient choices.
  • Pantry-aware meal suggestions and recipe adaptation.
  • Recipe cards designed for beginner-friendly, low-energy cooking situations.
  • Leftover tracking and food waste reduction workflows.
  • Local-first user data for saved plans, groceries, pantry items, and preferences.
  • Habit-building meal prep flows and a progressive cooking skill tree.

Current Status

Pantry Witch is currently in concept and prototype development. The active focus is defining the MVP, designing the user flow, and building a lightweight prototype around weekly plans, grocery checklists, recipe cards, pantry tracking, leftover management, and cooking skill progression.
